Morning Good People! Some bad 💩 happened last week. The OBBBA becoming law is a step backwards in transitioning towards a regenerative economy. I’m grieving, I’m animated, I’m locked in. Care for yourself and your communities, as always, we got work to do.

Lagniappe ⚜ (a lil extra)
News Scan: Updates to Track 📰
The reverse Robin Hood bill accumulates massive amounts of wealth upwards, cuts Medicaid to leave nearly 12M Americans uninsured over the next decade, removes renewable energy incentives to install heat pumps, wind, solar, EVs, incentivizes coal mining, offshore drilling, and pushes false solutions such as carbon capture and sequestration for enhanced oil recovery (says a lot about how this benefits oil & gas doesn’t it?).
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Events 🗓️
Date: July 19, 2025 10:00 AM CT
Location: St. John the Baptist Parish, LA
Host: The Descendants Project
Description: July-teenth? Don’t you mean June-teenth?
Enslaved people in St. John the Baptist Parish were not legally emancipated until July of 1864—more than a year and a half after the Emancipation Proclamation- when Louisiana officially abolished slavery. While most communities across the United States commemorate Juneteenth as a symbol of freedom, Julyteenth will be The Descendants Project’s annual program at Woodland Plantation that honors those who were excluded from emancipation by the U.S. government. This event will uplift those who sought and continue to fight for freedom in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Many of us live in perpetual state of having our backs against the walls. For others, the moments of optimism are harder to recall. Things feel different because they are different. While we have work to do, we also need to acknowledge how much we’re carrying. Here’s some excerpts from Atmos’ Dear Climate Therapist series that might resonate
So, how do I show up for my kids, my partner, my employer, my family, my friends, my community, and myself, and continue to engage in the climate fight…how do we take care of ourselves and our loved ones, and hold on to our sanity, while continuing this fight?
You asked: How do we keep our sanity? Remember that feeling these difficult emotions in response to multiple crises isn’t a sign of mental illness—it’s a sign of your mental health. In an increasingly insane world, we all need to reconsider what sanity looks like. It’s OK to not feel OK.
Above all, don’t let these times erode or cause you to doubt what is most important in your life. You clearly care deeply about your family, your children, your friends. When you feel overwhelmed, come back to the heart of it all: love. Protect that fiercely.
But do take time to stop, pause, and recognize the value of what you have done..it matters…
Yes, we need people in this fight—but we also need sanctuary.
Be imperfect. Be human. And keep going.
Keep going friends 🙏🏾🙏🏾
In solidarity,
Trace
