Lagniappe ⚜ (a lil extra) Resources + Uplift

  • BP Calls It Quits on Sustainability : One thing that you can always rely on when it comes to fossil fuel companies, especially the multinationals, is that they will always do what is profitable in the near term. This week has seen British Petroleum, now infamous for its sustainability-coded marketing campaign of Beyond Petroleum, abandoned its sustainability commitments. This should come as no surprise given BP’s horrific track record in the Gulf Coast.

  • Big Banks & Big Oil: Wells Fargo has joined the club of financial institutions that have abandoned their targets of net-zero financed emissions by 2050. In short, they’re going to continue to make money through methods that they acknowledged that they should be cutting back on.

While its clear that large institutions will continue to lag on the progress that they need to make, we know that all change starts at the local level.

For those of you who’ve never experienced Mardi Gras, I’m sure it conjures up lots of vivid imagery (and likely some inaccurate stereotypes).

One thing that is almost always missed from the carnival narrative is just how wasteful of an experience it is! All of these plastic beads go into our drains, catch basins, and who knows where else 😨

This is all the more reason that it is exciting to see folks that have been in the trenches for years pushing for a more sustainable approach while honoring our culture get some shine. Take a moment to watch this short video about Grounds Krewe.

Finally, Mardi Gras is a season, but New Orleans is a way of life. Watch this moving tribute to the city and its people voiced by my friend, Cierra, creator of Noir N Nola.

How we doing? Shoot us an email for any feedback or suggestions for how we can ensure you’re getting access to what you need.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Hail Bacchus, Hail Shaq! ← not a cult, I promise 🙋🏾‍♂️

Let’s continue to build together 💪🏾

In solidarity,
